Good Friday Morning, Kids!
Its a beautiful Friday morning here in the PNW, and once I get some coffee in me (Thanks for the pods, @Darrel), I’ll wander outside and see what kind of trouble I can get into…

Thrown a curve ball this week necessitating a trip across state and some hang time in the hospital (not for me or Sonya)… the good thing is I got to sit in on a 50th HS Reunion planning meeting and saw some folks I literally haven’t seen since we all wore red graduation gowns… A really good evening. So I have one son fighting fighting a cardiac issue and one who is buying a house (we hope) in preparation for his PCS to Logan, Utah, this summer!

Been away for a couple days so will get caught up… Have a great day, All! IT’S MAY already!

Happy Friday. I thought I would roll into the driveway yesterday right on 50k but had to detour around a flooded road. Lake Texoma is 18.56' above normal. Supposed to crest this weekend. Hopefully the rain is gone for a while.

I’ve gotta say, Ron, the new knees have really given me hope… Pre-Steve Austin I was really struggling to stay positive, but not having knee pain has really turned my thinking around…

I’ve gotta say, Ron, the new knees have really given me hope… Pre-Steve Austin I was really struggling to stay positive, but not having knee pain has really turned my thinking around…

I know what you mean about struggling to stay positive when you have constant pain. My back has been really bad, and getting worse since, well, since Moab last year. It ends up being a choice between drugged up, and cranky as heck. Neither of which makes me a joy to be around. Lucia is a saint, dealing with me and work, and everything else. The good news is that I finally got my surgery date after struggles with the insurance company. June 12th is the magic day! Then it's 3-4 weeks of recovery time, followed some physical therapy. My plan is to work hard, so that by the time I get to Colorado, I'll be back in tip top shape. 😎

OVERLANDING IN 1936.

Ok, back then, they call it traveling but whatever...

This July 1936 photo of Vernon Eveans (his family was traveling with him), documents their travel from South Dakota to Oregon, looking for work. Tough people. The photo was taken near Missoula, Montana, by Arthur Rothstein.

There was no Interstate and not even many paved roads, here in the Northwest, at that time. Still, they say he made about 200 miles per day in that Model T Ford.

I do not know about 1936, but a document at the Montana Historical Society says there were on 50 total miles of PAVED highway in the state by 1928.

Funny you say that. I was in a training class last year with officers from around the state. The instructor starts asking how many years we have been on the job? I hate when they do this. So, she asks us who has been on the job for 1 to 5 years. A few people put their hands up, because nobody wants to be police officers anymore. She kept going up in increments of about 10 years. Then she asks if anybody has been on the job for over 30 years? I was the only one that raised my hand, and said that I have been on the job for 36 years. She asked me if I would explain what has changed in policing since I first started? I said, "Well, the most notable change was when the internal combustion engine was invented, we were able to get rid of the horse and carriage and respond to calls a lot faster."

Sleep pattern is still all over the place. But here "I go again" seems like I've heard that somewhere before..any who's....grab a bowl, pour a cup of jo and pull up a chair.
Be a good human today and freak folks out with random hugs. Scott might appreciate today's high of -7 although !'m not a fan!
Today is Williston's 98th Band Day parade and festivities which goes right by the house here a half block away.
