Ever the cynic here, what grade of bourbon do you think they put in that bottle? With all the dairy, vanilla, sugar, etc. it's a great way to use up inventories of sub-par booze.

That's my theory for Gallo wines (especially the gallon stuff), Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Southern Comfort, etc. They buy up defective product distillers on the cheap, cover the sub-par taste with flavorings, and sell it to people who aren't really discerning. College kids, especially.

Same thing with "French Vanilla," "Hazelnut," and other flavored coffees. I do the same thing myself. I have flavored syrups, and doctor cheap coffee (like Folgers) when I'm preparing a mug I'm going to nurse over a few afternoon hours.

Speaking of "French vanilla," how do we know it comes from France? Suppose it's Tim Horton's which came from Quebec? Then it would be French Canadian vanilla? And what about "Belgian waffles?" "Swiss cocoa?" I have a sneaking suspicion that Green Mountain Coffee might not have been grown in Vermont!
