Heading to Outer Banks soon and would like to know what is recommended tire pressure for driving on sand In other words how much to air down I have 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands with RTR lift and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT 245 65 R17 tires. I do not have bead lock rims Thanks!

I also have the same tires and no beadlocks. I go down to 12psi without any issues.

Yep, I'm usually in that 10-12psi range also. As long as you don't any stupid sharp turning high throttle maneuvers, you'll be fine at those pressures.

I was at 15lbs all week. Not a problem.

I usually air down to 18 , this has been sufficient.Don’t forget, You may need a pass for certain locations. Check with the National Park Service.

I have a 2024 Sport Badlands. I’ve only taken it on the beach, in FL, once. The sand was quite deep. I didn’t remove any air. I attempted to stay in any previous paths, but sometimes slid around. I never even thought to remove any. Aren’t all new models filled with nitrogen? If so, where do you top them off once back on the road?

You can put regular air in a tire with nitrogen. It will dilute the nitrogen but it's completely safe to do so..

Indeed, and that's because the air one adds is 80% nitrogen. 🙂

But but but... that is the cheap stuff...... that is not the "good" stuff.....

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of using nitrogen for "daily drivers". I leave it for the racers. 😎

I usually stick to 20-25. It’s plenty cushy, grippy, and saves time before and after vs going as far down as you’re going. Plus it’s the PSI range we used at the Off Roadeo in Moab.

That's fine for the type of terrain that Off-roadeo, especially Moab, is on. With sand, you probably want to go lower than that in order to get the largest footprint on the sand you can. Here's a great video that demonstrates that.

My Costco (Dedham) uses nitrogen. The sign says "Costco Members Only," but the two pumps are just sitting there, next to the tire facility...
@Bronco V-8, @Bruinsfan Hit the Cape in November. Very empty, no nesting birds, screw the speed limit.

Thanks for the heads up. Enjoy the tranquility and sand in your tires without feathered corridor disruption.

I run the outer banks (NC) often. I forgot to air down once first of last year and didn’t even realize it until I went to air up after coming off the beach. Had zero issues. I haven’t air down since. No problem. Actually sitting on the beach now; 36-38 psi all around!!
