Discussion: Does pink belong on an off-roader?

When Ford brought back Bronco, the goal was to get people outside and off-road in an SUV that could handle the wild. The 2020 press release introduced a younger audience to the history of the legendary vehicle and reminded Gen 1-5 owners of the power and fun the 4x4s provided for decades:

“Bronco gave rise to the fun and versatile off-road SUV in 1966, becoming the first enjoyable sport utility vehicle for those who wanted to live, work and play outdoors,” said Jim Farley, Ford chief operating officer. “Like the original, the all-new Bronco family is engineered to take you to epic places, with capability to deliver confidence on any type of terrain.”

“Bronco delivers on the common thread desired by enthusiasts – authenticity,” said Mark Grueber, Ford U.S. consumer marketing manager at the time of the release. “Building Bronco as Ford’s distinct outdoor brand includes a unique network of experiences, community and engagement that extends far beyond ownership of Bronco and Bronco Sport models.”

Bronco’s defining outdoor-focused features were later revealed to include a transfer case, available locking differentials, bash plates, and underbody protection, and fun-to-get-dirty and easy-to-clean materials. Enthusiasts had no doubt that this vehicle was tough and made to be used.

It was also created to be modular, from the Accessory Ready points to the heavy-duty bumpers, top options, and more, with the goal of letting you make your Bronco your own.

Fast Forward to Deliveries and the Present
This is where it gets interesting: People began modifying and accessorizing their vehicles in a way you wouldn’t. Tune into any forum, subreddit, or Facebook group, and you’ll see people removing trail sights, adding low-profile tires and big rims, or doing a spare tire delete.

While some owners don’t see the purpose of turning a 4x4 into a street-only vehicle, others say they bought it, let them do what they want, whether that’s softening the look or never letting it touch dirt.

So, the question is, does the Bronco brand only equal “rugged” in your mind, or can share space with a floral-wrapped Bronco that may never leave the pavement –– or one that does?

What appearance choices do you think go too far on a Bronco? What takes away from that highly capable and durable aesthetic? Is it graphics? Colors? A factory special edition collab?

Should Broncos be saved for the off-roaders or outdoorsy owners who want to make use of the 4-wheel-drive benefits, or are they equally at home in the driveways of people who want in on their cool looks and open-air concept, who may or may not get that the knobby tire sounds, trail drives, and washable interiors are part of the fun? Do brightly colored, fun Broncos belong around campfires and on the toughest Moab trails, or should they look like they blend in with nature?

If the Bronco world becomes flooded with grumpy bumpers and sparkly accessories, driven by owners who might not align with the original values and intent, or trims are introduced that don't match your idea of Bronco, does the brand lose some worth to you? What will make you leave the brand, or are you in it for life, no matter what other owners do or Ford releases from factory?

Again, it is NOT HATE.... what it is is dealers not willing to order something that will sit on their lot for a long period of time if you back out... That is why they want the $1000.... So you have some skin in the game and will not walk away from an order that they would not order for inventory....

Why do they think they will sit on the lot for a long time?... because people are buying 4 doors because they think they have friends that will ride with them often enough they should have their own doors....

I am old too... and I have a 2 door.... Some times I have a rider, sometimes I do not. I have had someone in the back seat twice in two and a half years. I am right there with you.... I NEED to get away from people!... LOL

The reason they are not stocking 2 doors is not driven by hate.... It is that all the kids these days think they have to have 4 doors.... ALL of my kids think they have to.

That 1000 dollars was a violation of what Ford told us and it came from Ford. not the dealer.
Every 2 door that they did manage to get sold.
Got the same problem with pick ups now.

"It would be that Jeep has been paying attention to what Ford found out in their research and trying to play "catchup". Ford didn’t just bring back the Bronco on vibes and nostalgia. Someone at Ford correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the Gen-6 Bronco is one of the most deliberate, research-heavy vehicle launches Ford has ever done. They treated it like a clean-sheet startup inside a 120-year-old company."

They borrowed most of the parts and design from the Ranger.

The Ford Bronco and Ford Ranger are closely related, sharing the same T6 body-on-frame platform, engine options (like the 2.3L EcoBoost), 10-speed transmissions, and similar suspension architecture.

I am sorry but I am having a hard time buying that the deposit requirement is coming from Ford and not the dealer.... I understand that the dealer is telling you it is coming from Ford and they have "no control" over that.... BUT that would not be the first time I have heard a dealer lie about the situation. Why would Ford care... they have no skin in that game. They build it send it to the dealer and they get paid. Whether you buy it or not.... It is the Dealer that stands to lose. Period.

if this was true there would not be any 2 doors. And I have seen thousands of them. One dealership in town back in 2024 had 30+ broncos on their lot ( not counting the dozen Raptors) and almost half of them were 2-doors. The 2-doors will sell, but the dealerships play the odds game, that is why they buy neutral colored automatic 4-doors.

So since we've gotten into 2 door/4 door thoughts, what about the "special editions" –– do you feel like Ford should offer them as both door counts and both engine options?

Would you have bought Everglades (limited to order holders originally and limited in configuration, so I'm counting it as one) if it had a 2-door option or a manual transmission? Will you buy a Stroppe now that it's a 4 door? What does Bronco RTR look like for you as a 4-door only, automatic trans only trim?

If Ford offers a special edition, should it be limited in those ways, or would you be more apt to opt in if you could build it à la carte? I feel like I know the answer for all Broncos on that, not just the more rare offerings, but I'd like to hear y'all's options on that, too.

I don’t know how I feel about a 4-door Stroppe I guess I have to see it in real life. But I would feel better if the special broncos were kept special. The Everglades was special because when it was unveiled it was the only one with flat fenders, different wheels, Desert Sand paint, mid package with larger touchscreen, winch, snorkel, 2.3l, automatic , and the big sticker. Now the only thing that makes mine special is the snorkel and sticker. And I know Ford kept building Everglades until they built more than the heritage limited. That is why the off-roadeos have so many Everglades. At least that is my take on it. We still don’t have build numbers.

I still don't know how I feel about the fenders and big fender graphics, but i like the Everglades. If I could have gotten a 'Glades or Wildtrak in a 2 door I would have. Those 2 seemed special to me. I don't think I even saw a 2 door Wildtrak in real life until about a year ago. The Heritage limited is distinguishable but as much as I like them I don't care much for the seats and one could always mimmick the paint. I have seen a couple faux Heritage Broncos that had better execution then the factory units.

I do not mind that they offer the "specials" in a 4 door..... That is what sells... 20 years ago I would have purchased a 4 door out of necessity and lamented the fact.... I am a bit pissed that they offered the Heritage REB.... I have gotten over it (kind of) but damn... that was suppose to be "limited" Yellowstone yellow and peak blue are.... .I wish they had offered like a pastel green or something instead. The REB color has grown on me and I actually love it. I was luke warm at first but so wanted the limited that it did not matter. Not big on owning the Stroppe colors but really admire them. Really need to offer a Big Oly...2 door and 4 door... I like the short wheel base because of the trails I run it tends to be a positive benefit. If you run different trails some of those the longer wheel base does better. To me it is not the number of doors, it is the wheel base.
