Which bumper do you have? Some of the winch mounts only work with the modular bumper. I have the IAG winch mount and run the Overland Vehicle Systems SCAR winch that is 10k lb rated.

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

The other question is is this a budget build? Or are you more interested in esthetics? There are several "hidden" winch mounts on the market, but it's going to cost you more than a basic installation. A lot of them also negatively impact you approach angle. Also, make sure that whatever install you do addresses the frame horn weakness.

A 5500lb winch might be all you need if you are stuck some of the time, just that little extra you might need. But the problem is the weight of the vehicle plus the friction/suction/gravity you are trying to overcome will be greater than the rated strength of the winch. A broken winch line while under load can be a very dangerous, the 1200lbs is not that much more than the 5500lb and will be a little safer if you ever need to use it.

Please take some recovery classes on when and how to use a winch properly, this might help in your decision.
