Some dealerships are just terrible!

* rant *

I'll start by describing an issue my son had at the same dealership a few months ago.

He went in because the windows would roll up, then back down on his newly purchased F150. It's a common issue where the window rolls up, stops, then rolls partially back down.

He tried to reset it himself but it didn't work so he made an appointment. They claimed the aftermarket speakers that he had installed voided the warranty and they would need to charge him to reprogram the windows. 💩

He told them the window issue / error started 2 weeks ago right after purchase and when he originally called to make the appointment and that the aftermarket speakers were just installed a day before the actual appointment. They grudgingly reprogrammed the windows under warranty... WTF?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've recently been getting deep sleep warnings in the Ford App for my Bronco. The Bronco is 2 1/2 years old and is not driven often. It's driven a few times a week for short distances and in the winter time, the temps get pretty cold, often below freezing.

The only time the Bronco gets driven frequently is on my camping and off-road trips. The driving distance to get to and from there then several hours of 4 wheeling once at the camping spot.. This is a monthly occurrence except for in the winter months.

I do have a lot of accessories installed in the Bronco but most are ran to the Aux switches and are always off. I have winch, ditch lights, ARB dual, Midelan GMRS, etc..

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I call the dealer to make an appointment for them to test the battery and explain the above to the service advisor.. The 1st thing he says, and I never asked about covering under warranty, is something like: "Failing to properly maintain battery voids the warranty". He continues on and says "Sales people are responsible to replace batteries, at cost, for vehicles on our lot if they fail to maintain them" 💩 💩

I ask him how a consumer is suppose to properly maintain a battery and he says the vehicle must be driven. I say, well I told you it's driven once or twice a week, even in the winter, for short periods. He then fumbles his words around and says something like 'I am not saying the warranty is void but we would need to test it'.

He then asks what accessories I have installed. I tell him and he says the battery warranty is void because of the aftermarket accessories.. 💩 💩 💩

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I mean, c'mon man! I never asked if it would be covered under warranty and simply wanted the system tested. He immediately goes to 'the warranty is void' not once, but twice. They also pulled this crap with my son..

Meh, I'll just buy a battery and call it a day.. Some of these dealerships give Ford a very bad rep and name. This dealership easily gets a (5) 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 award!

* / rant *

I do have a Noco Genesis 5A battery tender that I use when it sits for long periods but I think the stock battery is just on it's last leg..

I am considering these 3 batteries. I am leaning towards the X2 Power

Thoughts on which battery would be best?

I have always had the best luck with the factory batteries in my vehicles. And have had some luck with interstate batteries. Autozone and wallyworld batteries are good for a year or two so.
That X2 looks interesting but with the cost of batteries now that is a lot of money to try out a battery. Which one has the best reviews?
BN 1100, Desert Sand Everglades. Reservation 7/30/20. ordered 1/22/21, reordered 10/15/21 dropped tow and hard top, reordered 3/9/22 changed to Everglades. production date 9/7/22 rescheduled 9/14/22 completed 9/26/22, shipped 10/7/22, arrived 10/31/22, delivered 11/03/22

First off the dealerships push the add on’s with the service people to make bonuses. They don’t want to deal with warranty’s, even though it is better for them. I work for my dealership as a driver and many of them don’t realize that I know better than they do. While doing an oil change on our 2023 Explorer, the service gal told me that I needed to get new tires. Mind you I purchased the car new from them, not even having it for a year and maybe 17K miles on it. I may have slightly berated her when she tried to tell me that tires don’t have warranty’s. they are shameless. I went to the parts desk to enquirer regarding a serpentine belt for the Bronco. I had looked on line but wanted to see if they had one. They quoted me $354 dollars. Employee price was still over $300. I just laughed and told him they were crazy. I purchased on line from another dealership, along with a AC/alternator belt for $65 delivered. And my dealership is actually a good one!🤣

In regards to your battery, how long has it been in service? My first one didn’t make it two years. Factoring that I live in AZ and the heat eats batteries, I started having the low power/deep sleep issue again about six months ago, even while on a battery tender. About two months ago I started throwing drive train malfunctions and then my on board air compressor stopped working. Found out my ground wire for the compressor had broken off the connector and was intermittently bouncing on and off the connector. I wonder if this has been causing my anomalies the whole time. Ever since I fixed it I haven’t had any weirdness or low battery issues. With all the bouncing around from off road travels, I make sure to check my wire connections regularly

The X2 appears to have the best reviews..

I wonder what the stock Bronco battery costs? I might call that dealerships parts department and ask. I never got around to asking the 'service advisor' at the dealership because he was dead set on voiding my warranty at any cost and I'd had enough of his BS games..

Anyone have the part # for the stock Bronco battery?

I believe the BMS can be reset in my driveway as I am sure the dealership will want to charge me a pretty penny to simply reset the BMS.

Best I can tell the process to reset the BMS is:

  1. Turn Bronco on to Acc (not staring it)
  2. Flash high beams 5 times
  3. Push brake pedal 3 times
  4. Wait for battery dash icon to flash
  5. Power off Bronco then back on

2 1/2 years..

I am sure it's just due to be replaced and my main reason for calling the dealer was to make an appointment or them to check it and advise.

The service advisor then went off on a wild 'void warranty' at all costs tangent even though I never mentioned replacing it under warranty..

Mine is driven infrequently, most times only driven short distances, and sits in ice cold temps during the winter months so I am sure it just needs to be replaced..

What ticked me off was how quickly he went to warranty void even though warranty was never mentioned by me.

It’s weird how certain dealerships go out of their way to try and screw people on their warranties. My dealership, when I go to the right people, always try to do it under warranty because it is typically easy for them. And some service people feel they are getting screwed out of a commission on the parts.

Yeah, they basically tried the same thing on my son..

I had already assumed it was not covered under warranty just because of the amount of aftermarket stuff I have connected to it..

The weird part was that I never even asked about replacing it under warranty. He must have assumed that's what I wanted as he was dead set on making sure I knew my warranty was void.. 💩

I just wanted it tested and for them to sell me a battery if needed.. 😂

Price: About $250 after tax and core exchange refund

https://www.ford.com/product/vehicl...yNDVRceM2sM-kApDSbWV_3_keFHhSdHy1AmcJ9wGO_zrt

Think I'll just go grab it and do the swapparoo..

Anyone know if this process actually resets the BMS?

  1. Turn Bronco on to Acc (not staring it)
  2. Flash high beams 5 times
  3. Push brake pedal 3 times
  4. Wait for battery dash icon to flash
  5. Power off Bronco then back on

BMS is then reset for the new battery?

So the dealership redeemed itself... Sorta.. Service still gets a 5 💩 rating but parts and sales get kudos..

I went in and purchased the battery as the dealer is only about 5 min from my home. The dude in parts hooked me up and sold me the battery for $206.95 (instead of $229.95) plus $15 in sales tax = $221.95 out the door.

As I am carrying the battery to the Bronco a sales person says 'nice Bronco' and asks if I am going to swap the battery in the parking lot. I tell him I'd probably need to wait until I get home as it's heavy and I'll probably need a small step ladder.

He says oh yeah, you need tools as well. I say I have a tool kit in the Bronco and he says he can go get a step ladder and he will help me swap it since the battery is pretty heavy.. He probably saw my old week self struggling with it..

He comes back a few minutes later with a small step ladder and we get it all swapped out.

Cool! Out with the old and in with the new.. The new one says Motorcraft on it, the old one said FoMoCo

Yeah, think you're good on this BMS reset. Your doors & windows s/b closed and dash's battery light take 10 seconds or so to popup. Here's shop manual on battery install.

Cheers

I didn't see your post before reply. Looks like your dealer's folks learned something from NAPA Auto Parts battery sales. Happy you're all set.

Yup, it did take like 10 seconds for the battery icon to flash on the dash. All good now, thanks! 😁
