Nitto’s cupping, horrible ride. ????

Anyone else have a set of nitto recon grapplers? Have you had trouble with them being cupped or out of round? My 37’s are horrible at only 6000 miles. I had them rotated at 5000 and went & had the balance checked yesterday b/c the vibration had gotten so bad. The shop said they were cupped pretty bad and it’s just normal for that type of A/T but no sir a $2000 set of tires should not beat my brains out on the interstate. If this ain’t normal which I suspect it’s not no other set of A/T’s I’ve ever had were like this, then nitto is getting a phone call to customer service for replacement.

Do you have a suspension lift? Aftermarket or stock shocks?

A lot of times cupping is caused by bad shocks and / or bad ball joints. Could also be out of balance or a combination of any, or all, of the above..

Add in you have 37" tires and you are putting a lot of stress on the system especially if it's still stock..

Edit to add: I think you just did a lift recently if I recall.. I assume the cupping was there previous to it so it could have been the previous setup that caused the issue and it's now magnified with the new suspension..

I doubt the tires are the cause of issue.. My guess is you have something else going on or the old setup (factory with large tires?) caused the issue..

I agree... cupping is not caused by the tires... It happens to them.... and it is an alignment issue. period. Why is there an alignment issue? I do not know. I do a 5 tire rotation of my Nittos every 3000. They are doing well. I also get an alignment every single time my steering starts to pull one side or the other even in the slightest. (always checked on the same stretch of road where it should track perfectly straight). I go to a guy that KNOWS steering and alignment because I am lifted. He does not just read the numbers and say it is okay because it is within specs. We discuss where and why it should be set at and what we need to do to get it there.

Yeah, probably alignment. If still bad after alignment, suggest getting these tries road force values before calling Nitto. If you’ve got numbers in high 40s & up, that’ll help with that Nitto chat.
